How to Reset Your Week When Working from Home Feels Overwhelming (Quick & Realistic Reset for WFH Moms)
You’re Not Alone in Feeling Overwhelmed
This has been on my mind since I shared a few of my work-from-home mom tips last week, so I thought I’d share more on my work-from-home mom experiences.
Here’s the scenario: You planned your week. You had your top 3 priorities laid out at the top of the page. And then: sick kids (and you know you’ll be sick soon enough), unexpected meetings, a leaky ceiling - your carefully set schedule got derailed.
Now you’re flustered, behind on your day, and feeling defeated. You feel torn between being productive and taking care of yourself and your family. It’s rough.
As a work-from-home mom, it’s not just the work “work” you have to do, it’s the life “work” too - the laundry, meals, errands, nap times, and the running mental checklist that seemingly never ends.
It’s frustrating because you know how good it feels to stay on track with what you planned for a productive day. And when you get off track, it feels impossible to get it together again without throwing your plans out the freaking window and starting over.
Here’s the Good News
You don’t have to start over. You just need a reset—a simple way to get your head above water so you can focus on what matters most right now.
I get the mental clutter and the guilt that comes with a to-do list you can’t keep up with. That’s why I created The Imperfect Reset Kit—a soft reset you can do anytime life throws you off.
A Simple 3-Step Reset
This works whether it’s Monday morning (admittedly, the most common time for this for me) or Thursday night:
1. Take Inventory of What’s on Your Plate
Write down everything you’re juggling—work, home, family, and personal. Don’t do anything about it. Just write it down.
2. Brain Dump Without Rules
In your “catch-all” space, spill all the random thoughts, reminders, and worries fogging up your head. The goal is to clear your mind, not make sense of everything.
3. Choose Just 3 Priorities
From that list, circle the three most important things you can focus on today. Let the rest wait.
Your Next Step
You can do this on a sticky note, in your planner, or—if you want a guided page that walks you through it—download my free Imperfect Reset Kit.
Inside, you’ll find:
A “What’s On Your Plate” check-in
A no-rules brain dump page
Reset rituals to focus on what gets your mindset right
A one-day planning template to get you back on track
Imagine the Rest of Your Week Like This
You’ve stopped ruminating and broken the paralysis. You know your next three priorities. You have space in your mind (and on your calendar) to breathe again.
The alternative? Staying stuck in “overwhelm mode,” waiting for a fresh Monday to start over every single week.
You don’t need to scrap your plans when things go awry. Take a beat to reset and set yourself up for success!
